RUNNING FIGURE
Portland Stone 70cm x 65cm
Unusually for me this piece is in the Art Deco style. It was developed from some Cherry wood carvings by Bainbridge Copnall, which were done for the First Class Dining Room of the Queen Mary cruise liner in 1936.

FAMILY GROUP
White Ancaster stone 20cm x 33cm
On a visit to the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, I was very struck with an unfinished Egon Schiele painting The Family, painted in 1918. In particular I was keen to replicate the pose of the painting while emphasising the monumental block nature of the stone.

SWIMMER
Portland Stone 50cm x 24cm
Eric Gill carved in 1929 for the BBC building in Portland Place, the maquette for this work is displayed in Tate Britain. Working in bas relief I have created this Swimmer in a similar style for wall mounting.

FEMALE FORM
Portland stone 75cm x 40cm
A sculpture by Barbara Hepworth in red sandstone in Tate Britain was in my mind when I designed and carved this piece. Although it is figurative, the forms reflect landscape forms seen in Cornwall.

TWO FIGURES
Carrara Marble 80cm x 40cm
This sculpture is of two figures and developed from a pose of two sisters lying in bed whispering, seen in a small provincial gallery in France. It is pictured here displayed in a Medical Practice waiting room in North London.

THE WAVE
English Alabaster 40cm x 25cm
This block came from my stone supplier with a rough broken end in a rather satisfying curved shape. I have echoed this shape with three further wave forms behind it. The result is a pleasing contrast of polished manmade forms and multi-coloured natural rough rock face.

SEATED FIGURE
Portland Stone 30cm x 25cm
In this piece I was interested in maintaining the monumentality of the form. I have preserved the shape of the block in the base which is part of the original block rather than a separate piece of stone.

ANGEL OF THE SOUTH
English White Alabaster 20cm x 50cm
This is my response to Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North. It forms a contrast to his heavily industrialised form.

THE HERALD
Portland Stone 70cm x 50cm
This piece is also in the Art Deco style. The Tate Modern has a piece with a rather fierce avenger wielding a scimitar. Although I liked the overall form I wanted a gentler image and have created this Herald.

VOTIVE OBJECT
Black Soapstone 60cm x 18cm
The British Museum contains numerous fist-sized prehistoric carvings of female torsos, whose functions we can only guess at, but were probably fertility related. I found these images fascinating and was inspired to produce a modern votive object.

WOMAN RECLINING
Portland stone 50cm x 50cm
This large garden sculpture was inspired by some granite sculptures I saw in Sweden in 2000.

EVE
Portland Stone 50cm x 80cm
This was a commission as a wedding anniversary present for a North London GP. It now sits in his garden as the focal point of an avenue of Yew hedge.
RECLINING FIGURE
Portland Stone 50cm x 70cm
This figure was inspired by a piece of street art I saw in Paris in 1996. The original stone version was purchased by a Mill Hill architect for his garden. This is a large piece which was also cast in bronze. The bronze version now sits in a garden in Totteridge.

ABSTRACT FORM
White Ancaster stone 50cm x 25cm
This sculpture was executed as an art swap with a fellow artist. It now sits in her garden in Aldbury and her seascape hangs on my chimney breast.
TWO RUNNING FIGURES
Portland Stone 90cm x 80cm
On a visit to the Picasso museum in Paris I was very taken with a Picasso painting ‘Two Women Running on a Beach,’ painted in 1922, which was a monument to the new freedoms that swept the world after the First World War. This sculpture is a modern take on that idea. The sculpture now graces the tea terrace on our allotment site.

RECLINING FORM II
Bronze 70cm x 50cm
This is a cast in bronze of an original Portland stone carving. It was cast by Limehouse Foundry and I was able to be involved in decisions concerning the patination which was a fascinating process. It has been sold as a birthday present and is now in a garden in Totteridge.

POMPEII FIGURE
Ancaster Weatherbed Stone 60cm x 30cm
Ash from the Vesuvius eruption near Pompeii incinerated Roman citizens and effectively cast them in lava. Seeing the casts was quite emotional and led to this piece.

PIERCED FORM
Black Soapstone 27cm x 16cm
This was my first successful carving. Early influences of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth are in evidence. The piece works equally well laid vertically or horizontally.

ABTRACT FORMS
Ancaster Weatherbed Stone 90cm x 35cm
Weatherbed stone is sedimentary and laid down in layers during its formation. This block of stone had a grey and an amber layer and this formed the inspiration for the two forms which although appear to be two separate stones in different colour, are in fact a single slab. The textured sides contrast with the polished edges. The piece works equally well in an indoor or garden setting.

REPOSE
Fired Terracotta 35cm x 20cm
I frequently work in clay at the maquette stage, I then cast the clay maquette in plaster and this forms the final maquette that I scale up when I carve in stone. Often the piece becomes more abstract in the translation from clay to stone. In this case I liked the maquette as it stood and so fired it.

THE DANCE
Cold cast Iron 170cm x 110cm
This was a commission for a General Practice reception in North London. Henri Matisseand John Duncan Fergusson both painted images of figures dancing I have reinterpreted this image to comment on family relationships which seemed appropriate for General Practice.

BLUE HEAD
Glass Fibre and Resin 23cm x 59cm
This early work was originally simply a blue head. The addition of yellow eyes has made the piece rather unsettling, the eyes follow you wherever you are in the room containing the work.
